Top 7 Crystal Books For Beginners

Crystal books

If you didn't know, there are tons of junk crystal books on the market.

After spending hundreds of dollars on crystal books, I want to help you spend your money wisely because at the end of the day there are two things to keep in mind about crystal healing books:

  1. Learning about the crystals (the science stuff)

  2. Learning the crystal meanings which have been passed down over thousands of years in different cultures

As you expand your collection of crystals and books you will find disparities from time to time. Some arenโ€™t a big deal while others may bother you quite a bit.

As with gaining any knowledge in the metaphysical realm, Iโ€™m going to always advise you to keep the stuff that resonates with you, verify what intrigues you to see what your intuition is telling you and if you donโ€™t buy it, chuck it.

To save you on picking up the ones that are regurgitated content from blog posts here are the top seven crystal books that I'd suggest you add to your collection.

I have put them in order for you from good foundation books to deepen your knowledge.

The Must-Have Crystal Books for Beginners

The Ultimate Guide to Crystals & Stones by Uma Silbey - this book is fantastic if you want a really great overview of crystal healing and practical uses. It goes much deeper than the identification type books like "The Essential Guide To Crystals" and "The Crystal Bible."

The Essential Guide To Crystals by Simon + Sue Lilly - this crystal identification book has essentially the same crystals as "The Crystal Bible" (below) inside, but this is organized by color, has additional tips on how to identify each crystal and similar stones for each crystal.

The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall - this is a great lil book that goes over the most common crystals, organized alphabetically and has their individual properties helping you to identify and quickly discern a use for each crystal. My only issue is that for Citrine the photo used for 2 of the 3 crystals are actually amethyst that has been baked to look like citrine. For a crystal bible, I didnโ€™t expect to see that and find it a bit disappointing.

Crystal Lore, Legends & Myths: The Fascinating History of the World's Most Powerful Gems and Stones by Athena Perrakis - This crystal book will give you all the great stories behind the crystals like how Cleopatra was said to have used crystals in her life and the crystals that were in Aaron's breastplate from the Bible. You'll find a rich history of crystal healing here.

The Next Level Crystal Books

Gemstone Feng Shui by Sandra Kynes - great information on incorporating crystals into the home and office. It does go in deeper on some lore about crystals that is also fun.

The Book of Stones by Robert Simmons + Naisha Ahsian - This book is great if you've got a growing collection of crystals beyond the basics and are looking to dive deeper. Each author gives their own impressions of each crystal. FYI, Robert Simmons is known in the crystal world for trademarking crystals - that is giving a new name to already known minerals such as Azeztuliteโ„ข which is quartz with inclusions. That being said, this book does has a lot of good information if you're looking for more thoughts on a particular crystal.

The Crystal Healer by Philip Permutt Volume 1 + Volume 2 - Each book begins with the typical crystal meanings, but the true value, to me, is the back portion of the books where you can look up practically any issue that you're experiencing and find a crystal prescription.

If you've come upon an amazing crystal book, please share!
