What Is A Pendulum And Why Use One?

A pendulum is great to use when you need a second opinion or need to locate something.

Wonder if a certain food is good for you? Wonder if this new career path is the right one for you? Is this the right crystal for me? Ask your pendulum!

What Is A Pendulum?

A pendulum is a weighted object that is suspended on a string. Like a lot of "witchy" objects, people tend to turn them into scary items reserved for people that wear pointy hats and make potions in a cauldron. I'm here to let you know that you don't need to be any sort of way to use and pendulum and experience the benefits of it.

Dowsing With A Pendulum

Back in the day, and by day I mean thousands of years ago, people would use a pendulum for dowsing. They would also use sticks for dowsing.

Dowsing is a way to find hidden things like water underground, minerals, and oil.

In the Bible, Books of Numbers, Moses, and Aaron use a rod to get water out of rock aka locate water for the people assembled.

Then Martin Luther called it "the work of the devil" and then it was deemed no bueno.

Anyway, some scientist people call BS on the art of dowsing, but then you have those big ass oil corporations that pay dowsers millions of dollars to find underground deposits, but what do they know?

But whether you choose to use your pendulum to look for hidden items or people, you can also use it to tune into energy and get information that you're seeking.

How Does A Pendulum Work?

Who knows? As with a lot of the things I write about here, there's no definitive answer but that's what magic is, right? Magic is something that we just don't understand yet.

Some surmise that it's a natural extension of your subconscious tapping into the energy field that gives you the answer that you're seeking through seeing how the pendulum responds.

Others think that you're tapping into your invisible communication line to the Divine.

Who knows and I doubt we'll ever get an "official" answer unless there was a worldwide erection dysfunction problem and using a pendulum was the only cure. But, I digress.

Either way, once you get your pendulum you will figure out what the 'yes' and 'no' and 'no answer/maybe' of your pendulum and then you can go to town.

Make Your Own Pendulum

Making your own pendulum is easy because all you need is an object with some weight to it attached to a string or chain that's between 6" and 9". Any string longer than 9" is too long for me, but I've got short T-Rex arms.

All you need is a rock and a string. Or a metal bolt or washer and a string. Or you can use a necklace.

Easy peasy. But if you don't want to make one you can obviously buy one, like this, or choose another one.

How To Choose A Pendulum?

Choosing a pendulum is like choosing a crystal. It's a personal choice and believe me when I say this, make a connection with the pendulum that you choose because you want a connection with the tools that you use.

Beyond that, there are different objects used as the bob, aka the weighted part at the end of the string.

Let's dive into the types of pendulums and why you would want to choose each one.

Types Of Pendulums

There are Wood pendulums, crystal pendulums, and metal pendulums. Is one better than another?

I don't think so. Other people have other opinions on the matter.

Some believe that wood is unaffected by the environmental energies (and in their theory can't attract residual energy) leading to the supposition that it may be more accurate when doing accurate work.

Some people, like me, think everything is and can be affected by energy in the environment in a positive or negative way.

Ever heard of a Dybbuk box? Made of wood with energy attached to it like a motherfucker. So...

Choose a pendulum that calls to you. What calls to me may not call to you. When the energetic connection is made, you'll have a much easier time getting accurate answers from your pendulum, no matter the material.

Oh, and before you get to work with your pendulum, cleanse it. The techniques for cleansing crystals will also work for your pendulum.

How Can You Use A Pendulum?

Pendulums are an excellent tool for all sorts of things, like:

  • Finding Lost Objects

  • Balancing And Checking Chakras

  • Clear Energy In A Room

  • Past Life Readings

  • Second Opinion On Your Life Choices

There are many uses for your pendulum, and I'm sure you're going to enjoy using it when you're looking to find your phone that got lost in your house or to figure out if another slice of pizza is a good choice.

Seriously, though, you can work with a pendulum for spiritual work and energetic work, too.

I'd love to hear what you use your pendulum for. Share them in the comments below!
