Overcoming Creative Blocks

I'm going to give you the secret to overcoming creative blocks that you never saw coming. Yep, no one talks about it and I'm going to tell you how to make your creative blocks a thing of the past.

What most people don't want to talk about when it comes to creative blocks is grounding. And I get it, it's totally woo-woo and so not business-like to even have such a discussion. But you're free to try the standard advice of stepping away from your work and having a dance party.

Why Grounding Is Important To Overcoming Creative Blocks

Let's start with what grounding is a way to connect your body to the earth's energy. We're electrical beings and we need to be grounded like any other appliance if you will. When grounded, every part of the body can entrain with the electricity of the earth and stabilize all of the organs, cells and support the immune system.

Throughout history, people were grounded all the time, either they didn't wear shoes or wore footwear made of animal skins, slept on the ground and we’re touching the earth all the time.

Us? We've got shoes on practically all day long and we rarely go out and put our feet in the soil. And sometimes it's not possible to do that in the winter, but don't worry because there are other ways to ground yourself we'll go into later.

During modern times we've increasingly separated ourselves from the contact with the earth's electrical field by wearing shoes with rubber or composite soles that insulate our bodies from the Earth's energy field. Even our home’s floors are either covered in carpet or "wood" made of synthetic materials that block the connection to the earth and promote a build-up of static electrical charges.

And since the modern times, there's been a rise in illnesses, that many say is due in part to our loss of contact with the earth.

When we ground we tap into the battery supply of the earth and that helps us our bodies to be in a state of balance. Some say that grounding decreases inflammation and pain, while reducing stress, and improving your circulation. I'm sure we can all agree that those are good things for your body when you get your electric nutrition.

When we're not grounded, we're like the leaves on a tree without a trunk that connects us to the earth. Our thoughts flit about leaving us unable to focus much like having a hundred browser tabs open all at once. Being in our minds all the time means we're out of balance because we're not rooted in the ground.

Signs of Not Being Grounded

When we're not grounded because we've been on our phone or Facebook for too long, or not being in contact with the earth you may experience some of these symptoms.

  • Feeling "spaced out"

  • Unable to focus

  • Forgetfulness

  • Agitation

  • Feeling dizzy

  • Clumsiness

  • Experiencing fear or anxiety

  • Tendency to daydream

  • Unrestful sleep or chronic fatigue

I think a lot of us will attribute this to either the first signs of getting older or working too hard. But what if a lot of the things that we pass off as something that we've assume is just a fact of life might be something that can be improved by doing some grounding?

Grounding And Chakras

When you ground yourself you are opening your lower chakras with the goal of uniting with the earth's energy. Your chakras are energy centers within the body associated with particular physiologic systems. These energy centers regulate the flow of energy to the different organs in the body. When the chakras are functioning properly, they allow the body to function as designed and in harmony with the other chakras.

Your root chakra, the first chakra, is associated with the earth, so when we're linked with the earth's energies we can function on the planet.

Your sacral chakra, the second chakra, is associated with reproduction and creativity, as the creation of life and ideas can be born if the chakra is balanced.

Creative expression happens in the lower chakras and the creative energies can then be channeled upward into the higher chakras, but only when the lower chakras are in balance. But when a chakra is unbalanced the flow of energy is affected.

Getting Grounded Helps Overcoming Creative Blocks

There are many ways to get grounded

Earthing - Going barefoot for 10 minutes whenever possible, lying on the ground, getting into the lake or ocean or doing some gardening with your hands in the dirt.

Food - Eat little meals throughout the day with root chakra foods like proteins, root vegetables and nuts.

Crystals - Obsidian, almandine garnet, onyx, jet, hematite, carnelian, orange calcite, spessartine garnet can be worked with. you can either put them in your pocket, your bra or even sit on them 😂as I've done a time or two.

Orgasms - interestingly enough orgasms instantly align your chakras and do get you grounded.

Essential oils + Resins - vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood atlas, frankincense, dragon's blood resin are earthy, musky scents to connect you with the Earth's energy.

Intention - doing a grounding meditation can take just a few minutes as you close your eyes and take three deep breaths. You can then visualize golden light coming down from the heavens, through your crown chakra, passing through and opening each chakra as the light makes its way through your root chakra on its way out through your toes and into the earth until it reaches the core of the earth. As the light reaches the core of the earth picture it intermingling with the energy swirling about the core then see it then coming back up through the path it took, back into your body starting at your toes and all the way up through your spine until it connects again with the heavens.

Overcoming Creative Blocks Can Be As Easy Or Hard As You Make It

Grounding your energy doesn't have to be a big production, especially if it's winter outside or you're strapped for time. Whether you spend a couple of minutes doing a visualization or ten minutes with your shoes off, grounding is imperative if you're experiencing a creative block and need to get back to creating in a jiffy.
