Your Purpose, Not Your Passion Will Make You Successful

your purpose will make you successful

Finding your purpose is hard. Like harder than opening a box of Mac N Cheese. Right?

Most people go their entire lives not knowing exactly what their purpose is. So they do what they think they're supposed to be doing. When you think about it, how dumb is that?

We're following the path blazed by imbeciles a lot of the time.

Usually, it's because we lack direction, no one gives us a handbook to follow and we just let society tell us what's what. Again, have you seen the imbeciles that are supposed to be the "smart ones"?

When we don't find our purpose, we look to follow our passion. Your passion is not going to sustain you as you grow your creative business.

Passion is the spark, the emotions you feel, the energy and excitement you have about your purpose.

Your passion can be fickle and it's how you feel about things. I'm passionate about a lot of things and those things change all the time.

I'm passionate about crystals, tarot, George Michael's music, people using fucking blinkers while they’re driving. While some of those things are intermingled as I follow my purpose, they are only passions.

Your purpose is the reason you are here and maybe something you've chosen to ignore.

Your purpose is why you do the hard work. Your purpose is what fulfills you in life. And I think at some point we've all known what our purpose was but then the imbeciles told us that our purpose was dumb, not profitable, not worthy, not in alignment with family's ideals, etcetera, etcetera.

We all want to belong and to belong means that sometimes we forgo what direction our internal compass is pointing simply because we can't live an existence alone. And usually, our family's thoughts matter a lot. But I will tell you that after you live life for some years you start to see that if you chose to not follow your purpose just to get along, you end up covered in Cheeto dust, binge-watching Netflix, wondering where your life is going.

Your family and friends have also attended the school of hard knocks so when they unintentionally squash the dream of following your purpose you tend to listen. As a kid, they kept you alive so surely they must know what they're talking about, right?

And then if you take the time to look deeper into their lives you start to see that in some of these people their lives are unfulfilling. They drink too much, have a negative word to say about everything, or literally have accomplished nothing beyond high school like Al Bundy while clinging to the four touchdowns scored in a single game.

Whatever happened in their life is the lens in which they seek to guide you in your life. Most times people don't follow their purpose for a multitude of reasons, but usually fear and if you've got the balls to follow yours then you won't be like Al Bundy relishing your high school years as the best time of your life.

When your purpose seems like a secret

A lot of us don't know exactly what our purpose is. Or we seem to think our purpose changes throughout our life. I don't know that our purpose changes as much as we start to grow into the person that is meant to fulfill our purpose.

When we closer to the core of our humanity and have it shaped by our perceptions, experiences, and thoughts we might think our purpose changes, but I think it's been there all along waiting for us to step out of the unconscious life into our awakening.

When it comes to finding your purpose you're going to do some soul work. You'll have to live some life, explore challenging thoughts, do things you hate, shed the facade that's kept you relatively safe, and then decide what your part is in helping others.

Your purpose will involve helping others in some fashion.

While saving the world would probably net you a statue and a holiday, not everyone wants to be saved. However, there are plenty of problems different groups of people want help with to make them feel better and live better. You then have to figure out what problem you care about and come up with a solution.

Sure, it's Business 101 - every problem has a monetizable solution but a lot of times entrepreneurs leave the soul part out of the equation. But not you. You don't want to wake up and have every material possession available in your hands to only end up back on the couch covered in Cheeto dust asking "what does it all matter?"

Living Your Purpose Is A Limited Time Offer

In case you weren't aware, you're going to die. Sorry if that shook you.

You and I are going to die. If you haven't had a health scare yet to make that very clear, you can imagine that a masked machete-wielding madman has the knife to your throat. As your life flashes before your eyes at that moment will your legacy be one that you will be proud of?

Your purpose lies in being a part of the world, helping others in some way, and do it without the need for validation from others.

But I don't want you to get it twisted. Everything can come back to helping others through your business.

  • You make paint brushes so the artist can paint something that makes another person's endorphins kick in.

  • You teach others how to take photographs so they can capture the important family moments so they don't only have to be a memory.

  • You build the website so another business owner can make money to use it to raise money for a charity.

  • You build the desk so the writer can express the words that someone else needs to hear

  • You build the music stand so the musician can play the music that helps people get in touch with their emotions.

No matter the creative endeavor and business you choose to create if you expand your way of looking at it and how important your role is, you can see that your purpose does matter even if it's a paint stroke in the bigger picture.

You can't forget who will be affected by your purpose and your passion will give you the energy to follow your purpose. People matter and what joy can you bring to others will help you to find your purpose.

In that giving something bigger to the world than seeking out what you can get for yourself is where you will find your purpose. I'm not saying finding your purpose is an easy task and there will never be a perfect time to live your purpose. You're not going to be able to find a shortcut to discover it and no one can tell you what it will be for you. I can tell you that if you commit to expanding your thoughts, exploring what the world has going on, and seeing how you can be a part of it will help you to ignite the passion of fulfilling your purpose.
